Website Design for Hotels:
The Foundation for a Strong Online Presence

Hands using a smartphone to search through hotel reservations on a laptop keyboard.

A successful website starts with a well-thought-out concept. Only when the target audiences, positioning, content, and user navigation are clearly defined can a website be created where guests can quickly find what they’re looking for—and intuitively navigate their way to a direct booking.

We understand your challenges well

You know your website could do more, but with day-to-day operations—from check-ins to staff scheduling and guest inquiries—the redesign keeps getting put on the back burner. At the same time, many bookings come in every month through Booking, Expedia, and others. —and thus through booking channels that charge commissions.

Maybe it’s technically outdated, barely usable on a cell phone, or simply doesn’t tell the story your home deserves. And when you do talk to an agency, you get proposals full of technical jargon whose value you can’t assess.

We're going to change that!

Conceptualization Process

Our Approach: Understand First, Then Design

We don't start with design; we start with a well-thought-out concept. Through a structured process, we first clarify the key questions:

Who are you trying to reach?

Who are you reaching today—and what kind of guests would you like to attract in the future?

What makes your house unique?

What unique features and experiences set your hotel apart from the competition?

What feeling should your new website convey?

Luxury, coziness, adventure, or relaxation: Which experience should be conveyed online?

What price range does your house fall into?

Does your current website reflect this—and what should change in the future?

What products and services do you offer?

Which offers are particularly relevant, profitable, or important from a seasonal perspective?

Based on the responses, we develop a website concept with a clear structure, relevant content, and a user flow that guides guests step by step toward making a reservation.

What are your competitors doing?

How do comparable hotels present and position themselves online?

Is there already a brand strategy in place?

How is your hotel positioned, and what guidelines already exist regarding the brand, tone, and design?

Website Design

Here's How to Create Your Website Concept

Based on these insights, we’ll develop the structure for your new website step by step—from the initial analysis to the collaborative workshop and on to the final page and content concept.

Step 1

Understanding the Product and Brand:

Through our discussions with you, we’ll get to know your hotel, your positioning, your offerings, and your brand. Together, we’ll clarify what your hotel stands for and what sets it apart from others.

Step 2

Analyzing the Status Quo:

We analyze your existing website: from its structure and content to mobile usability and relevant usage data. We also examine your key competitors and identify their strengths, weaknesses, and specific areas of potential.

Step 3

Workshop:

We then consolidate all our findings into a clear page structure and a well-thought-out navigation concept. We also develop a content plan that specifies which texts, images, and other content are needed. This results in a concrete briefing for design and implementation.

Step 4

The result: Your website concept

After the workshop, we’ll consolidate the findings into a visual page structure and navigation concept, create a content plan (What needs to be written, photographed, or produced?), and summarize the workshop results into a clear briefing for the design phase and subsequent implementation.

The Next Step

The plan is in place—now we can move forward

Once your website concept is finalized, you’ll have laid the foundation. Design, technical implementation, and content can then be built upon this foundation in a targeted manner. If you’d like, we can also guide you through the subsequent website relaunch—from the initial draft to the go-live.

Implementation with Hospitality Expertise

Based on this concept, we develop a hotel website in which the concept, design, and technology work together from the very beginning. This allows us to avoid unnecessary rounds of revisions and create a website that suits your hotel and your guests.

Ongoing Optimization and Support

Even after the go-live, we continue to monitor your website's performance. Using web analytics and tracking, we identify opportunities for optimization and continuously refine your website as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions About Website Design

  • Is the “Website Structure Concept” enough for me, or do I need the concept workshop?

That depends on your starting point. The compact package (starting at €490) is a good fit if your target audiences, positioning, and content are already largely defined and you primarily need a coherent site structure. In the concept workshop (starting at €2,990), we dig deeper and work together to examine target audiences, offerings, user navigation, and content, among other things. The best way to determine which option is right for your project is to discuss it during an initial consultation.

  • I have very little time in my day-to-day hotel routine. How time-consuming will the planning phase be for me?

Our design process is designed to make the most efficient use of your time. During the workshop, we identify the key questions and gather your insights about the hotel, guests, and goals. We then use this information to develop the site structure, user flow, and content plan, so you can focus your input on the decisions that really matter.

  • Once the design is complete, am I obligated to have XPORT build the website as well?

No, absolutely not. One of our most important core values is your independence. Our website design service is a standalone consulting offering with no hidden lock-in effect. In the end, you’ll have a clear, well-founded roadmap in your hands. Of course, we’d be delighted if we could handle the design and programming for you afterward—but you’re completely free to work with another agency to bring the finished concept to life.

  • Can my hotel take advantage of BAFA funding for the website concept?

In the vast majority of cases: Yes! If your hotel is based in Germany, is a legally independent entity, and qualifies as a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME), your chances of receiving funding are excellent. Since we are an officially listed BAFA consulting firm, you can have up to 50% (and in the new federal states, even up to 80%) of our consulting fees reimbursed by the government. We’d be happy to check your eligibility in advance during a free initial consultation and guide you through the process without any red tape.
