Japanese efficiency meets European comfort: the CAB20 in Hamburg

Cabin Hotel CAB20

High Five!

The challenge

XPORT prefers to be on board right from the brand conception and creation stage. However, we don't lose any sleep over the fact that we only get involved in the project from the web programming stage onwards. On the contrary: working with external designers is always inspiring and characterized by mutual respect.

In this case, the client, Fährhaus Investment Group, commissioned the agency Format Design to develop the corporate design for the new cabin hotel CAB20, which opened in Hamburg in April 2021. The special feature of the creative work is the strikingly frequent use of icons, so-called "storytelling tiles". But there were other aspects that made the job unusual for us. The 160-bed CAB20 is the first cabin hotel in Germany, and we thought that a new kind of hotel should have a new kind of website. And a new kind of booking engine: the integration of the relatively new "MEWS Distributor" solution was another XPORT premiere.

The Final Countdown

The striking countdown on the homepage of the new hostel website made it clear that the opening of CAB20 in April 2021 was something to look forward to "for reasons". The timer counted down to the exact second.

Important news: Mews

For the first time, XPORT was able to integrate the relatively new hospitality system MEWS. All booking channels on the website lead to the IBE "MEWS Distributor" of the Prague-based tech company. Promo codes are transferred to the booking route via "mewsVoucherCode".

Users generate content

The Embed/Social tool came into play to optimally embed the user-generated content from Instagram into the website. Feeds with matching hashtags are filtered and pushed into the page. The tool also allows likes, shares and comments to be transferred.

As the CAB20 target group is particularly online and therefore video-savvy, it is greeted with an image video in the header of the homepage. Of course, the YouTube link for the separate video block was also a must.

Pedometer

The CAB20 website also recommends selected cultural, gastronomic and party locations as well as events in Hamburg to guests hungry for adventure. An open street map link connects the curated neighborhood tips with the Google Maps route planner.

The xport solution

In line with the functional design of the cabin hotel, we developed the individual, clear, concise and, above all, mobile-performance hotel website for the product. The modular structure of the site with the CMS ProcessWire makes it possible for the editors to add planned topic pages such as the "crew introduction", job offers and mission/vision at a later date.

To ensure that everyone sees this, XPORT took over the monthly search engine optimization online and offline after the successful launch of the website.

Moves immediately: video in the header. What enchants guests faster than atmospheric images? Exactly, moving images. Especially when the target group is very video-savvy. The header video at CAB20 ensures that website visitors are immersed in the CAB20 rooms called "Cabin" in milliseconds. You're practically in bed before you've even booked. Speaking of which: booking is of course just a click away.

Mobile-optimized booking engine: With CAB20, MEWS Distributor takes over the processing of direct website bookings. We have integrated it seamlessly into the website, creating an optimal conversion flow on mobile devices too. Including tracking connection and cookie consent transfer.

User-generated content first: we have integrated Instagram content directly into the website for the CAB20's social media-savvy target group. The basis for this: the EmbedSocial solution.

Cab 20 Start

In order to do justice to the mobile device diversity of Cab20's young target group, XPORT primarily took into account the flexibility of the web. Right from the concept and the first screen design implementations, and later in the programming, the focus was on the responsive web design of the hotel website.

The website's area and party tips are used almost exclusively via smartphones. They are primarily used by guests on site. The Open Street Map connection is linked to the Google Maps route planner app to suit the purpose of the application. While still in their cabin, guests plan their evening and check the distance from Cab20 to the location.
